Iranian tourists visit the citadel Arg'e Bam in southeast Iran on Friday, 02 July 2004. The town Bam in southeast Iran was devastated last December by a quake with a magnitude of 6.3 on the Richter scale. According to official figures, more than 26,000 people were killed in the Bam quake. The residents of Bam however claim that at least 60,000 died. "We have issued more than 30,000 death certificates since the quake", the governor of Kerman, Mohammad-Ali Karimi, said. The governor sees nonetheless a positive trend in Bam. According to Karimi, almost all homeless were accommodated in over 30,000 prefabricated houses, business is flourishing again on the streets and the people start to live again.
