DEUTSCHLAND FLUGZEUGABSTURZ MUENCHEN
A tragic night - 40 years ago - in the history of both aviation and soccer. The date is February 6 and the year 1958. A British European Airways Elizabethan aircraft, carrying the Manchester United football team, crashed at the airport in Munich during a heavy snowstorm leaving 23 of the 38 on board dead. Many of those who died were members of the so-called Busby Babes, a youthful but highly talented squad named after the club's legandary manager Matt Busby. He survived along with another soccer legend Bobby Charlton. (KEYSTONE/EPA/DPA/KLAUS HEIRLER)
