The highest quality oriental tobacco in the world is grown in Turkey. Tobacco was first introduced to Anatolia in the early 1600s as a result of the region's trade with English, Spanish and Venetian merchants. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said that the government would be implementing new tobacco taxes. According to Turkey Statistical Institute (TSI), in the last 5 years the country has made 381 thousand tons of tobacco production.Last year, production decreased by 7 percent compared to the previous year and decreased from 75 thousand 275 tons to 70 thousand tons.
