JAPAN ECONOMY CONSUMERS
Japanese consumers shopping in exclusive department store in Ginza district of Tokyo, Friday, 13 August 2004. The Japanese government reported Friday the country's economy grew 0.4 percent in real terms in the April-June period from the previous quarter for the fifth straight quarterly expansion. This indicates another sign that the recovery trend is taking hold, according to government analysts. The GDP deflator, a key inflation gauge, dropped 2.6 percent for the 25th straight quarterly fall, a sign that the world's second-largest economy still suffers from deflation, however.
