Radiation measurement at nuclear power plant Beznau's reactor 2, pictured on September 23, 2011, in Doettingen in the canton of Aargau, Switzerland. The nuclear power plants Beznau 1 and 2 produce power all around the clock. The only exception being a two to four weeks stop in summer for the yearly renovation and inspection and the changing of the fuel elements. Beznau 1 and 2 went into operation in 1969 and 1971 respectively. Benznau 1 was the first nuclear power plant in Switzerland. The facility provides around 6 bilion kilowatt hours per year. Dies mit Ausnahme von jeweils zwei bis vier Wochen im Sommer, in denen die Anlagen für die Jahresrevision und den Brennelementwechsel abgestellt sind. Beznau-1 und Beznau-2 gingen 1969 bzw. 1971 in Betrieb. Beznau-1 war damit das erste Kernkraftwerk der Schweiz. Die Anlage liefert rund 6 Milliarden Kilowattstunden Strom im Jahr.
