NORDIRLAND BLOODY SUNDAY BUERGERKRIEG
RCOD 323-63 17829-14 Bloody Sunday Obligatory credit - CAMERA PRESS/Colman Doyle The history of 'The Troubles' date back to Britain's first invasion of Ireland in the 12th century. Since then Ireland has been at war with itself: Catholic versus Protestant, Republican versus Unionist. The recent history of unrest in Ulster began in 1969 when Catholic's demanding civil rights met violent Protestant opposition, providing the spark for years of armed struggle which ended with the Good Friday Agreement of 1998. This January 1972 picture shows the people of Derry, Northern Ireland, avoiding gun-fire in the Bogside during 'Bloody Sunday'. 1972 (KEYSTONE/CAMERA PRESS/Colman Doyle)
