For the remaining five matchdays of the Bundesliga season, Heynckes replaces Juergen Klinsmann who was dismissed two days after a 0-1 defeat against Bundesliga rival Schalke 04. Heynckes had been in charge at Bayern Munich between 1987 and 1991 winning two league titles. He furthermore won the UEFA Champions League title with Spanish side Real Madrid in 1998.
