epa01727145 Space shuttle Atlantis lifts off from launch pad 39-A viewed from the top of the Vehicle Assembly Building at Kennedy Space Center, Cape Canaveral, Florida, USA, 11 May 2009. Shuttle Atlantis is on an eleven day mission to make repairs to the Hubble Space Telescope with the install two new instruments in Hubble, as well as replace the Fine Guidance Sensor. Five space walks will be conducted during the flight. Shuttle Endeavour which rolled out to launch pad 39-B will be poised ready on the launch pad to begin a rescue mission and pick up the crew of Atlantis in the event that there is damage to space shuttle Atlantis during the mission and Atlantis is unable to return to earth.
