GROSSBRITANNIEN FILM RICHARD ATTENBOROUGH
British film legend Richard Attenborough (pictured on the set of 'Chaplin' 1992) was born in Cambridge on 29th August 1923. Having attended RADA his film acting debut came with 'In Which We Serve' (1942) and he followed this up with memorable lead roles in films such as 'Brighton Rock' (1947), 'The Great Escape' (1963) and '10 Rillington Place' (1971). His directorial career has also been successful and in 1982 he won a Best Director Oscar for 'Gandhi'. He still works both behind and in front of the camera and is considered one of Britain's greatest contributors to the performing arts. In 1993 he became Lord Attenborough when he was made a life peer. (KEYSTONE/CAMERA PRESS/Str) === ===
