AEGYPTEN CHRISTENTUM KOPTEN
A river barge with a Holy Family scene painted on a sail crosses the Nile during a re-enactment of the flight of the Holy Family to Egypt during a Coptic Orthodox celebration of the event which took place over two thousand years ago in the village of Deir Abu Hinnis, 350 kms south of Cairo Saturday 27 January 2007. Egyptian Christians believe the infant Jesus, Mary and Joseph crossed the Nile River near here in their flight from King Herod's soldiers which followed the Holy Family from Bethlehem. There are many Coptic holy sites where tradition believes the infant Jesus passed through creating miracles and blessings.. EPA EPA/MIKE NELSON
