AEGYPTEN CHRISTENTUM KOPTEN
A felucca (Egyptian river sailing boat) with a Holy Family scene painted on its mast crosses the Nile with local residets re-enacting the flight of the Holy Family to Egypt during a Coptic Orthodox celebration of the event which took place over two thousand years ago in the village of Deir Abu Hinnis, 350 kms south of Cairo Saturday 27 January 2007. Egyptian Christians believe the infant Jesus, Mary and Joseph crossed the Nile River near here in their flight from King Herod's soldiers which followed the Holy Family from Bethlehem. The Holy Family according to tradition spent 4 years in Egypt before returning to the Holy Land after Herod's death. EPA EPA/MIKE NELSON
