MEXIKO PROTEST ABWAHL BUERGERMEISTER OBRADOR
Thousands of leftist sympathizers stage a protest to complain about the removal of Mayor Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, a political adversary of President Vicente Fox and the favorite to win the 2006 presidential election, Sunday 29 August 2004, at Plaza del Zocalo, in Mexico City. Lopez Obrador has accused the Federal Government of seeking his political misfortune. The mayor defended himself of the accusation that he did not comply with a judicial regulation that ordered him to stop the construction of a highway at a land which is the subject of a legal dispute.
