Chip manufacture. Technician in a clean room used for the development and manufacture of computer chips. The techician is wearing a protective suit to prevent hair, skin flakes and clothing fibres from contaminating the production facilities. Exposed computer chips are vulnerable to airborne dust and can be disabled by the slightest contam- ination. The air in the clean room is filtered to remove dust particles; its temperature & humidity are strictly regulated to prevent damage to the chips. In addition the chips are stored in boxes to give them further protection. Photographed at an Intel factory; the class-1 cleanroom has fewer than 35 airborne particles per cubic metre.
