Sony Corp plans to cut 10,000 jobs worldwide, or about 6 per cent of its workforce, by the end of 2012, a news report said 09 Apruil 2012. Half the cuts would be from the consolidation of Sony's chemical and small- and mid-sized liquid crystal display (LCD) operations, the Nikkei business daily said, citing unnamed sources. The Sony group had 168,200 employees at the end of March. The job cuts were expected to span various departments at the company and group firms, including those involved in development, production, sales and administration, the Nikkei said.
