Defendants at the Nuremberg War Crime Trials, Germany, c1945-c1946. Between 20 November 1945 and 1 October 1946 the 24 surviving most senior Nazi leaders were tried before the International Military Tribunal in the Palace of Justice in Nuremberg. Pictured are Luftwaffe commander Hermann Göring (1893-1946), Deputy Fuhrer Rudolf Hess (1894-1987), Foreign Minister Joachim von Ribbentrop (1893-1946) and Army Chief of Staff Wilhelm Keitel (1882-1946). Göring, Ribbentrop and Keitel received death sentences, although Göring committed suicide before he could be executed, while Hess was sentenced to life imprisonment and died in Spandau Prison.
