Deutsche Bank's chief executive Josef Ackermann waits in a courtroom in Duesseldorf, Wednesday Nov. 29, 2006. A German court on Wednesday approved a deal to end the retrial of Ackermann in the Mannesmann bonus case, freeing the way for Ackermann to keep his CEO post. Ackermann and five others were being retried for alleged breach of trust in approving almost 60 million euros (US$79 million) of payments to executives of Mannesmann after the German telecoms firm was bought by Vodafone in 2000, one of the biggest-ever corporate takeovers. The judge approved a deal struck between the defence and prosecutors, under which Ackermann would make a payment of 3.2 million euros (US$4.2 million) but leave the court without admitting guilt.
