MONGOLEI NOMADEN ALLTAG
A nomad stands with his 1948 rifle used to protect his family from wolves in the plains 250 km west of Ulaan Baatar, Saturday 06 September 2003. Roughly 50 percent of Mongolia's 2.5 million people still maintain a nomadic lifestyle, moving all their possessions as often as twice a month in search of fresh grass for their livestock. The nomads continue to move even during the winter when temperatures can sink to a brutal negative 40 degrees celcius. With a land mass five times that of Germany; Mongolia's extremely low population density of 1.4 square kilometers per person has preserved this ancient lifestyle.
