Satellite image of super typhoon Hagibis approaching Japan. At this time the typhoon had maximum sustained winds of 259 kilometres per hour, making it a category 5 storm. The typhoon is expected to weaken before it makes landfall in Japan a couple of days after this image was taken. However, it is still expected to bring heavy rain and severe winds that will cause flooding and damage. This has lead to some matches of the 2019 Rugby World Cup, hosted by Japan, being cancelled. Image data obtained on 9th October 2019, by the VIIRS (Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite) sensor on the Suomi National Polar-orbiting Partnership (Suomi NPP) weather satellite.
