GROSBRITANNIEN NORDIRLAND KONFLIKT IRA WAFFENSTILLSTAND 1994
RCOD 323-X128 X16882-4 Cease Fire Obligatory credit - CAMERA PRESS/Stewart Mark The history of 'The Troubles' date back to Britain's first invasion of Ireland in the 12th century. Since then Ireland has been at war with itself: Catholic versus Protestant, Republican versus Unionist. The recent history of unrest in Ulster began in 1969 when Catholic's demanding civil rights met violent Protestant opposition, providing the spark for years of armed struggle which ended with the Good Friday Agreement of 1998. This photo was taken in Andersonstown, Northern Ireland, where thousands gathered in August 1994 to hear Sinn Fien president Gerry Adams declare an IRA cease-fire. 1994 (KEYSTONE/CAMERA PRESS/Stewart Mark)
