A Dollar trading company in Tokyo, Monday 22 March 2004. The US dollar fell back to the 106 yen level in late Monday selling in Tokyo, losing most of its sharp early gains above 107.50 yen that were triggered by Taiwan's political crisis and its possible damage to the Japanese economy. At 5 p.m., the dollar was quoted at 106.95-98 yen, up slightly from Friday's 5 p.m. quotes of 106.60-70 yen in New York and 106.80-82 yen in Tokyo.
