ARCTIC RESEARCH STATIONS ON SPITSBERGEN ISLAND
A sign for the former telegrpah station can be seen on Spitsbergen in Ny-Aelesund, Norway, 09 April 2015. Arctic research stations occupied by Norway, Germany (Koldewey Station of the Alfred Wegener Institute), France, and China are continuously working in the former miners' settlement in the Svalbard archipelago. Stations are manned by Italy, Great Britain, Japan, as well as smaller buildings for researchers from Spain and the Netherlands only for a restricted time period. The collective infrastructure maintained by Kings Bay, which includes an Ocean Research Laboratory, cafeteria, harbor installation, and workshops, comprises the foundation of the research.
