DEUTSCHLAND TANKSTELLE ZAPFSAEULEN
A row of petrol pumps pictured at a petrol station in Kassel, Germany, Thursday 01 September 2005. An increase in petrol prices to an extend never seen before has shocked car drivers in Germany. The devastating destructions left by hurricane 'Katrina' in the US was the cause for the drastic increase in fuel prices. Oil companies Aral, Esso and Shell have added an extra eight euro cent per litre on Super Premium petrol, which is now at an average of 1,39 euros per litre and the price for diesel increased by three euro cent to around 1,16 euros per litre. Experts warned of the negative consequences for the economoy resulting from the drastic increase in fuel prices. EPA/Uwe Zucchi
