HUMAN ORNITHOPTER, 19TH CENTURY
Human ornithopter. 19th-century illustration of a man with wings attached to his tunic. There are several recorded attempts in history of people using wings attached to their arms to attempt to fly. However, humans are too heavy for such designs to work. Aircraft that use flapping wings are called ornithopters. This illustration dates to between 1800 and 1830.
