GDR/HUNGARY - FALL OF THE WALL - REFUGEES
Refugees from the GDR are on their way to the reception camp Zanka on Balaton in Hungary in summer 1989. Thousands of tourists from the GDR took advantage of the beginning dismantling of the barbed wire fences on Hungary's western border and fled to West Germany. Many also took refuge at the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Budapest in spring and summer 1989. After the embassy was closed due to overcrowding, reception camps were opened.
