Deutsche Bank Chairman Josef Ackermann waits for the beginning of the Mannesmann Trial at the regional court in Duesseldorf, Germany on Thursday, 22 July 2004. The court Thursday acquitted the head of Germany's largest retail bank and five others accused of criminal charges in connection with bonus payments related to the Vodafone takeover of German company Mannesmann in 2000. The court found there was no evidence of breach of trust committed by Deutsche Bank chairman Josef Ackermann and his fellow accused. Besides Ackermann, the other defendants included former Mannesmann head Klaus Esser and former supervisory board members Joachim Funk and Klaus Zwickel, who faced various charges related to the huge bonus payments made after the takeover.
