DEUTSCHLAND MANNESMANN PROZESS JOSEF ACKERMANN
Deutsche Bank chairman Josef Ackermann stands at the regional court in Duesseldorf, Germany, Thursday 24 June 2004. The Mannesmann trial has been adjourned until next week. One of Ackermann's attorneys was injured in a car crash Wednesday evening. In result the court chose Wednesday, 30 June 2004 as next day of trial. The trial focuses on the controversial severance payments of 57 million euros, which were paid during the purchase of Mannesmann by the British telecommunications group Vodafone in 2000. The prosecuter's office considers the payments to be illegal, because the people in charge had knowingly damaged the assets of Mannesmann's shareholders. A verdict is expected in July.
