Cygnus constellation, artwork. Cygnus, or the Swan, was recognised in the 2nd century AD. Notable stars in Cygnus include the bright stars Deneb and Albireo. Several myths are associated with Cygnus, the most popular being the Greek myth of Phaethon and Cycnus, sons of Zeus.
