Nairobi, Kenya. May 1998. The railway divides the Kibera slum in two. One of the Kenya's largest slum.....Kenya has a severe, generalized HIV epidemic with 1.1 million HIV/Aids orphans. About 2,6 million Kenyans are infected with the deadly virus that has claimed more than 1.5 million lives since the first case was found in 1984. Surveillance of HIV in pregnant women is conducted annually since 1990, with prevalence rising to 16 percent in urban areas and 8 percent in rural areas in the late 90's. ..
