The 15.4-kilometers-long Ceneri Base Tunnel is Switzerland's second largest tunnel-construction project. It passes under the Monte Ceneri Mountain and links Camorino (north) and Vezia (south). Together with the Gotthard Base Tunnel which opens 2016, it forms the heart of the «New Railway Link through the Alps NRLA». The two Base Tunnel create a continuous flat north-south route. Im Ceneri-Basistunnel wird die Sprengung des letzten Stueck Fels rund 800 Meter tief im Berg gefeiert. Der 15,4 Kilometer lange Ceneri-Basistunnel im Tessin verbindet das Nordportal in Camorino mit dem Suedportal in Vezia. Zusammen mit dem Gotthard-Basistunnel bildet er das Herzstueck der Neuen Eisenbahn-Alpentransversale NEAT. Die Eroeffnung und Inbetriebnahme des Ceneri-Basistunnels ist fuer 2020 vorgesehen.
