RUSSLAND ST. PETERSBURG NEWSKI PROSPEKT
A view of Nevsky Prospect, the main street of Leningrad, in 1965. Laying its first foundations in 1710, Nevsky Prospect was planned by the French architect Alexandre Jean Baptiste LeBlond. It runs for 4.5 kilometres through the heart of the city and acts as its cultural and commercial centre. Leningrad, as it was named after Lenin's death in 1924, was re-named St Petersburg in 1991. The city was founded by Peter the Great on May 16, 1703. (KEYSTONE/CAMERA PRESS/Novosti/Str) === , ===
