IRAK SUMPF SIEDLUNGEN
Iraq: marsh dwellers in the Hor, a broad area of marshland near the confluence of the Euphrates and Tigris. Tradition believes the Hor, an age-old refuge, to be the Garden Eden - Paradise. The marsh dwellers live since 6 000 years on tiny islands in barrel houses entirely made from reed. After the uprising in 1991 Saddam Hussein drained the swamps by diverting the Euphrates to make the area accessible to his tanks. After Saddam's demise there is an effort to bring the swamps back.
