Mit Tennisschlaegern zogen die Englaender auf Kreta in den Krieg und mussten sie auf ihrer eigenen Flucht zuruecklassen." Im Rahmen des Balkanfeldzuges griff die deutsche Wehrmacht im Zweiten Weltkrieg am 06.04.1941 das Koenigreich Griechenland an und besetzte das Land. Mit dem Unternehmen Merkur im Mai 1941 startete die Wehrmacht zugleich die erste grosse Luftlandeoperation der Militaergeschichte, um die noch von den Alliierten besetzte Insel Kreta zu erobern.
