Anthropologists from the Forensic Analysis and Applied Science Center (CAFCA) exhumed the remains of 51 of the 79 victims who were killed in the April 16, 1981 massacre, for a two year study before returning the remains to their families. 250,000 people disappeared or were killed during Guatemala's 36 year civil war between 1960 and 1996.
