CALCIUM-CHANNEL BLOCKER TABLETS
Calcium-channel blocker tablets. Blister pack of Nifelat, a calcium-channel blocker drug. Nifelat is used to treat angina (chest pain) and hypertension (high blood pressure). Nifelat is a trade name for nifedipine, which works by blocking the movement of calcium through cell walls. Calcium is involved in muscle contraction, so by blocking its transport nifedipine causes the relaxation of artery muscles leading to the dilation of the coronary and peripheral arteries. This leads to a lowered blood pressure and reduces the heart muscle's demand for oxygen. Taken in excess, nifedipine can cause headaches, dizziness and palpitations.
