FILES-ATHLETICS-USA-OLY-AUCTION
(FILES) American athlete Bob Beamon (C) stands on the podium with his black socks exposed, as a sign of protestation against racism in the USA, after his world and Olympic record-breaking long jump of 8,90 meters on October 18, 1968 at the Mexico Olympic Games. At right is second-placed Klaus Beer of East Germany, at left third-placed America Ralph Boston. It was long the long jump of the century and it's still an Olympic record, but Beamon is going to part with the gold medal he won at the Mexico-1968 Olympics, after a historic leap of 8.90 m. The madel will be auctioned on February 1, 2024, in New York at Christie's, which estimates its value at between $400,000 and $600,000. (Photo by EPU / AFP) (KEYSTONE/EPU/-)
