Police meet ship at Southampton..Police met the 'Fort Dease Lake' at Southampton today, after the ship had put into port with a radio message stating that the fifteen native firemen refused to work. The Canadian owned 7,126 tons 'Fort Dease Lake' is on charter to the Ministry of Transport, and was bound for Greece from Antwerp. Itis understood the firemen were disatisfied about conditions and rates of pay. After their reported refusal to work, the firing was done by other members of the crew..Photo shows, the firemen from the 'Fort Dease Lake' landing at Southampton dock today escorted by CID and Police Officers..8 August 1947 (KEYSTONE/United Archives / TopFoto/TopFoto.co.uk)
