Detainees are given a Koran and a white holder that keeps it in full view of all, this is to avoid allegations of acts of desecration. According to a UN human rights report released today, 16 February 2006, the United States must shut down its detention centre at Guantanamo Bay without delay and urged Washington to try to release the more than 500 detainees still held there. The 54-page document charged that US treatment of "war on terror" detainees at the naval base on Cuba violated their rights to physical and mental health and in some cases amounted to torture.
