SERBIA ASSASSINATION
This is July 22, 2002 photo of Vladimir Popovic, a former top aide of the assassinated pro-Western Serbian prime minister Zoran Djindjic. Popovic has accused current conservative premier Vojislav Kostunica of acting as "a political umbrella" for the nationalist organizers of the slaying of his bitter political rival. In an interview with the independent B-92 television late Monday, Jan. 31 2005, Vladimir Popovic also said that a Western ambassador had warned him of plans to kill Prime Minister Zoran Djindjic eight months before his assassination in downtown Belgrade in March 2003.
