The antisubmarine escort trawler HMS Turquoise, has just completed a four-year service on the East Coast, during which time she has steamed 72,000 miles in escorting 215 convoys comprising 6400 ships of the total tonnage of 16,000,000 t. The turquoise is adopted by Gwmbren U D Wales. She claims to have sunk one E boat for certain and probably two; helped to salvage three naval and eight merchant ships; brought 150 survivors to safety. She played her part with the "Little Ships" of Dunkirk. Most of the crew are peace time fishermen. She was built in 1935 fishing on the White Sea, taken over by the Admiralty the same year and converted for present job during the Abysinan War..Picture shows: HMS Turquoise setting out on escort duty.
