I-LIMB BIONIC HAND TESTING
i-LIMB bionic hand testing. This is the i-LIMB Hand model, developed by the Scottish company Touch Bionics and launched in 2007. This was the first powered prosthetic hand that had articulating fingers. These fingers, independently powered, are capable of opening and closing around objects, as shown here Each hand is made of 150 parts, some less than one millimetre in length. They are assembled in the Touch Bionics workshops in Edinburgh, Scotland, where they are tested before being sent and fitted to the patient. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY/PHILIPPE PSAILA)
