CITRUS LEAFMINER IN A LEAF
Citrus leafminer in a leaf. Close-up of a citrus leafminer (Phyllocnistis citrella) larva in a mine in a citrus leaf. Burrowing through the leaf tissue means the larva is protected from externally applied pesticides. The line is a faecal trail, left behind as the larva moves through the leaf. The wound makes the plant more susceptible to citrus canker disease. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY/PEGGY GREB/US DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE)
