DEUTSCHLAND SANDBANK
[Stockbild] Sand island. Aerial photograph of a small sand island off the coast of Frisian, Germany. The island was formed from sand deposited by the seas currents. Once plants began to colonise the island, the loose sand stabilised, slowly growing in size. The plants that inhabit this sort of habitat need to be able to withstand constant sea water spray and salty conditions. The channel that runs through the middle of the island only fills with water during very high tides. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY/BERNHARD EDMAIER) === ===
