EUROSID, A CRASH TEST DUMMY
Crash test dummy called EuroSID, modelled on the average man. EuroSID (European side impact dummy) was designed to test safety in vehicle side impacts. Its metal and plastic skeleton is covered by flesh-simulating foam and plastic, with a PVC skin. EuroSID's three ribs (lower centre) are attached to a steel spine box by a piston, springs and a damper. EuroSID contains load cells to sense the motions and forces it experiences during an impact. Photographed at part of First Technology Safety Systems in Delft in the Netherlands, which calibrates new dummies, and refurbishes and recalibrates old dummies for the European market.
