DESIGNING CRASH TEST DUMMY
MODEL RELEASED. Crash test dummy design. Designer holding the neck of a crash test dummy, whose design is displayed on a computer monitor. The neck was built to record the movement of the head in crash conditions. In an impact at 32 kilometres per hour, the neck can move through an angle of 43 degrees. A crash test dummy contains sensors to measure the motions and forces it experiences during vehicle impact tests. Photographed at part of First Technology Safety Systems in Delft in the Netherlands, which calibrates new dummies, and refurbishes and recalibrates old dummies for the European market.
