SAENGER HORUS SPACEPLANE, ARTWORK
Saenger/Horus spaceplane. Computer artwork of the proposed Saenger spaceplane high up in the Earth's atmosphere, with the smaller Horus space shuttle separating from its dock on Saenger's back. The Saenger/Horus system is designed to provide a cheap method of launching astronauts and cargo into space. The Saenger would take off from a normal runway and, powered by jet engines, climb to 37,000 metres. It would then release the Horus which would use rockets to propel itself into orbit. Saenger and Horus are designed to be reusable. They are German designs. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY/DETLEV VAN RAVENSWAAY/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY)
