Lia and Iudit were born in what is now Romania in 1937, and in 1944 with their mother were deported to Auschwitz where they were selected for Josef Mengele's identical twins program. The mother and both sisters survived and were eventually reunited with their father in Romania in 1945 and later immigrated to Israel.
