TIERE BIENE BIENENSTAAT
Beehive with honeybees (Apis mellifera) entering and leaving. Beehives contain layers of hexagonal frames. These are divided into chambers using wax secreted by the bees. The chambers are then filled with honey and capped with wax. The bee keeper can then remove these frames to extract the honey. Because bees store honey to provide food over winter, the bee keeper replaces it with syrup for the bees to feed upon. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY/DAVID AUBREY) === ===
