Filer showing Villa Tugendhat built in Brno by famous German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe (b.1886-d.1969) in 1930. Earlier this month Villa Tugendhat was listed by UNESCO among world's top cultural heritage sites. Designed under a lavish budget for rich Tugendhat family , this house offered its residents a groundbreaking modern scheme of open space connected with surrounding garden through large glass windows. Alas, Tugendhats could enjoy their house only till 1938 when they had to flee ahead of inevitable Nazi occupation of the country. First confiscated by Nazis, the villa was taken over by Czechoslovak communist state after the WWII. It made its so-far last appearance in history in 1992, when negotiations over the split of Czechoslovakia into two independent states were held there. (KEYSTONE/CTK Photo/Frantisek Nesvadba) === ===
