THE GREAT PYRAMIDS OF GIZA.
Tourists on camels at the Great Pyramids at sunrise. Giza, Egypt. The pyramids were built as monumental tombs designed to cover the burial chamber of the pharaoh. There are various pyramid sites throughout Egypt. Although the ones at Giza are the largest, the internal decoration of passages and chambers is poor compared to later tombs. There has been speculation that the pyramids also had an astronomical connection. One theory claims that the pyramids at Giza and other sites were part of a massive construction project intended to mimic the constellation of Orion. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO/Susan McCartney) === ===
