CAPE PEREZ, ANTARCTIC PENINSULA
Cape Perez, Antarctic Peninsula. Spectacular, heavily glaciated mountains on the west coast of the Antarctic Peninsula at about 65 degrees south. Icebergs are seen at left and right surrounded by brash ice (accumulations of floating ice fragments). This region is experiencing atmospheric warming at a rate up to five times the global average. Nearly all of the Peninsula's 244 glaciers have retreated over the past 50 years. (KEYSTONE/SCIENCE PHOTO LIBRARY/SIMON FRASER)
